China was so fascinating, that even after only 2 weeks and 3 cities, I felt like I had enough experiences for a book! That wasn't going to happen, but I just wanted to share the experience. Submitting some sort of travel summary to the local newspaper just did not seem sufficient. A blog seemed like a convenient vehicle. I hadn't even gotten started yet when I told my writer friend Doug about my urge to write about the China thing and he said something really simple that got me going. "Just do it for your self!" The same day I heard a comment on NPR: "Write for the trash can!" OK there was an encouraging message from two sources Awesome! I wouldn't have to polish every word, or worry about "critics". I could just express my astonishment at this most bizaare and fantastic country. And maybe someone will even read it!
